Molecules Group : drinking water for school children

Many people still lack access to safe drinking water. In a social project, Molecules Group and Enda Third-World Association joined forces to supply water to a school in Dakar, Senegal

Located in front of the Mosque of Grand Dakar, the Serigne Issa Pouye School, founded in 1962, welcomes thirty-three students aged 6-21 years. Since 1982, Mbaye Diouf, educator, manages a master hand that institution while instilling the values and precepts of Islam. Great downside: lack of drinking water. To get water, students have long been forced to make long queues at public fountains, for 25 CFA francs ($ 0.1) the basin.

The challenge was to dig sewers, to lay out piping systems and connect the new point of distribution of water to the ONAS sewer system (National Sanitation Office of Senegal). This project lasted six months, has greatly facilitated the lives of students, and above all improved their hygiene conditions. In addition, it was a fine example of team spirit and sense of sharing.

“ Besides the financial aspect, the painfulness of the route and altercations were a handicap in learning from these young people.”Makhtar Niane SECK – GM Senegal
